  • It reporteduly features the world’s smallest Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chip, which ensures secure authentication and data encryption, providing users with continuous protection.
  • Along with its quantum security, the device offers enhanced AI capabilities, including improved night photography and a refined design.

ID Quantique (IDQ), a global leader in quantum-safe security solutions, and SK Telecom have launched the Galaxy Quantum 5, according to a news release. This fifth-generation Samsung smartphone reportedly integrates quantum technology with Samsung Knox, Samsung’s robust security platform, offering users enhanced protection for their digital lives.

As mobile devices become central to activities ranging from mobile banking and online shopping to health data management and professional applications, the need for heightened security has never been more urgent. IDQ and SK Telecom teams report that the Galaxy Quantum 5 is designed to meet this demand, equipped with quantum security features that offer users a fortified layer of protection across a wide array of mobile applications and services.

At the heart of the Galaxy Quantum 5’s security capabilities is the world’s smallest Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chipset, co-developed by ID Quantique, according to the release. Measuring just 2.5 x 2.5mm, this tiny chip plays a big role in ensuring that the data stored and transmitted by the device remains secure. By generating true random numbers, the QRNG chip may be able to fortify the authentication processes, safeguarding sensitive information such as fingerprints, facial recognition data and payment details from potential breaches. This level of security extends to a variety of apps, from financial services to social media platforms, providing users with a trustworthy mobile experience.

A unique ‘Quantum Indicator’ notification feature on the phone’s status bar lets users know when they are using quantum security services. While this feature can be toggled on or off, the QRNG functionality operates continuously in the background, maintaining the device’s security integrity.

In addition to its quantum security features, the Galaxy Quantum 5 also offers superior AI-driven capabilities, including the innovative ‘Circle to Search’ feature, enhanced night photography, and a larger display with a refined design. These enhancements are designed to provide a premium user experience, combining security with cutting-edge technology.

Yoo Chul-joon, head of SK Telecom’s Smart Device CT department, said the device’s dual focus on security and performance: “The Galaxy Quantum 5 is the latest in the Quantum series, now with premium performance and AI features, further enhancing its completeness. We aim to offer security and AI capabilities at a reasonable price through the Galaxy Quantum 5 and will continue our efforts to ensure our customers enjoy a convenient telecommunications experience.”

Grégoire Ribordy, CEO and co-founder of ID Quantique, commented on the growing concerns over data security: “Mobile phone users are more and more concerned that their data could get stolen. Our quantum chip provides powerful security for a large number of services used on the Galaxy Quantum 5, protecting customers’ most valuable information.”
