A quantum readiness assessment establishes what an organization needs to do about quantum technology, and when. For most enterprises, it covers two separate exposures. The first is quantum security: which systems rely on cryptography that a future quantum computer would break, and what a migration to post-quantum standards involves. The second is quantum advantage: whether any workload the organization runs is a credible candidate for quantum methods within the planning horizon, and which vendors and modalities are worth tracking. The output is a prioritized action plan with timelines, not a technology briefing. TQI runs quantum security readiness work as a defined engagement type.
Post-quantum cryptography refers to encryption standards designed to resist attack by quantum computers, which would break the public-key cryptography that currently secures most digital systems. The migration timeline is driven by two dates that organizations often conflate: when a cryptographically relevant quantum computer might exist, and when data being transmitted today would still be sensitive if captured and decrypted later. The second date arrives first for anyone handling long-lived confidential data. Engagement length depends on scope. Focused due diligence sprints on a single company or technology typically run in weeks. Ongoing advisory retainers run continuously. National quantum strategies usually start with an evidence base: which companies, research groups, patents, and skills already exist in the jurisdiction, and how that compares to peer nations. From there, governments set objectives, choose which parts of the value chain to back, size the funding envelope, and design delivery mechanisms such as testbeds, procurement programs, and talent pipelines. Measurement matters as much as design, because programs are typically reviewed against economic impact within three to five years. Quantum-specialist intelligence and advisory firms work only in this sector and maintain their own data. Global strategy and systems integration firms, including McKinsey, BCG, Accenture, Deloitte, and Capgemini, run quantum practices inside much larger organizations. They are the usual choice when quantum work sits inside a wider digital or transformation program and the client needs implementation capacity at scale.

Hardware and software vendors offer professional services around their own platforms. That is efficient once a technology decision is made, and it carries an obvious conflict when the question is which technology to pick.

Academic and national laboratory groups take consulting engagements, usually on technical feasibility rather than commercial strategy.

For vendor selection, market sizing, due diligence, or national program design, a sector-specialist firm with its own dataset gives you evidence rather than desk research. For enterprise-wide implementation across many technologies, a global integrator is usually the better fit.
