PRESS RELEASE — As announced in a recent news story from Türkiye Today, Britain and Türkiye will expand their decade-long scientific collaboration with the launch of their first Science and Innovation Week in 2025 according to a statement from British Ambassador to Türkiye, Jill Morris. As reported by Anadolu Agency, the initiative will bring together leading researchers to address global challenges, including quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, cancer treatment, and sustainable construction.

According to the article, the partnership builds on existing joint research efforts under the Newton-Katip Celebi Fund and the International Science Partnership Fund (ISPF). Over the years, the two nations have collaborated on 561 research projects, with around 30 new projects receiving funding in 2024. The initiative will focus on three themes: transformative technologies, a resilient planet, and advancements in human, animal, and plant health.

As part of this initiative, a newly established Science Committee will provide a platform for dialogue between government representatives, researchers, and industry leaders. Morris emphasized that Türkiye is a priority partner within the ISPF, allowing researchers from both countries to submit joint proposals for international funding. The two nations also continue their collaboration under European Union research programs such as Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.

According to the article, Britain maintains three science and innovation officers in Türkiye to support these collaborations. Additionally, both countries work together through the Eureka Network, which fosters innovation partnerships among private sector companies and small and medium-sized enterprises.

Morris highlighted TÜBİTAK’s role in driving scientific advancements in Türkiye and reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening research ties. With the introduction of Science and Innovation Week, Britain and Türkiye intend to further integrate their expertise in quantum technologies and other emerging fields, reinforcing their shared commitment those domains.
