PRESS RELEASE — SYDNEY, Australia — 13 December 2024 — Australian quantum computing manufacturer, Silicon Quantum Computing (SQC) has announced the recent appointment of Ian R. Hill as President and CIO.
As President and CIO, Hill has carriage over business development, IT, and portfolio management. His overall remit is to cultivate end-user partnerships and help accelerate delivery of SQC’s world-leading quantum computing hardware.

Hill originally hails from the USA where he spent over a decade in Silicon Valley. A former Stanford MBA, Hill worked at both Microsoft and McKinsey & Company before coming to Australia in 2013. Since then, Hill has taken executive roles advising banks on innovation and technology transformation. Most recently Hill was a COO for Transformation at Standard Chartered Bank, before which he did stints at Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) and Westpac Group.
COO at SQC, Jon King, added “For these reasons, we have appointed Ian to take ownership of our development partnerships, co-designing use cases for quantum computing with our corporate partners such as Telstra and CBA.”
Hill said, “I’m honoured to have the opportunity to work for Michelle in the company she created. Quantum computing is a long race and I think this team has everything we need to win.”
“SQC is an exciting company in that it already has commercial manufacturing capability that we can scale alongside chip development. My priority will be to identify development partnerships that accelerate both our technology and manufacturing roadmaps.”
Hill holds three degrees from Stanford University as well as an M.S. in Artificial Intelligence from GeorgiaTech, one of the world’s top 10 schools for Computer Science.
