PRESS RELEASE — Taiyi Quantum, a Shanghai-based quantum computing company developing fault-tolerant quantum computers based on ytterbium neutral atoms, has completed a RMB 300 million (approximately US$42 million) Pre-A financing round.
The round was co-led by Gaorong Ventures and IDG Capital, with participation from Huakong Fund, Yunqi Partners, Fortune Capital, Boyuan Capital, SAIC Capital, Hengxu Capital, Yare Capital, Qifu Capital, CETC Fund, and other institutional and strategic investors.
Founded in January 2026, Taiyi Quantum focuses on building scalable neutral-atom quantum computers using ytterbium (Yb) atoms. The company believes the ytterbium platform offers key advantages for fault-tolerant quantum computing, including erasure-detectable errors, fast quantum gates, native multi-qubit operations, and photonic networking through telecommunications wavelengths.
Following its angel financing, Taiyi Quantum has rapidly expanded to a multidisciplinary team of nearly 50 full-time researchers and engineers covering atomic physics, optics, control systems, quantum error correction, quantum algorithms, and software. Team members come from institutions including MIT, JILA, Singapore’s Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), and leading Chinese universities and research institutes.
The company has established research collaborations with Peking University, Fudan University, and East China Normal University. Taiyi Quantum expects to complete its first full quantum computing system by the end of this year and demonstrate logical qubits protected by quantum error correction.
The company is developing quantum computing technologies for applications including AI and scientific computing, computational chemistry, materials discovery, drug development, financial modeling, and information security, and is working with industrial partners to evaluate quantum algorithms for real-world applications.
The new financing will be used to accelerate hardware development, expand the company’s research and engineering teams, and further strengthen collaborations with academic and industrial partners.
