PRESS RELEASE — Quobly, a pioneer in quantum microelectronics announces a major milestone in building its industrial value chain, with the first custom 28Si FD-SOI wafers provided by Soitec now cycling inside STMicroelectronics’ 300 mm manufacturing facilities in Crolles (France). This is a crucial step in establishing a fully integrated supply chain, from advanced materials to quantum integrated circuits, as part of the strategic collaboration between the companies. This milestone in Quobly’s roadmap towards million-qubit technology marks a global first in the field of FD-SOI with a 28Si-enriched channel and confirms the strong potential for accelerating the industrialization of quantum processor units (QPUs).
“The industrial availability of purified isotope 28 FD-SOI wafers is a game changer for quantum technologies. It allows us to anchor our developments in a solid and proven supply chain from purified gas to quantum chip delivery – a key enabler for achieving our quantum performance targets,” said Nicolas Daval, Chief Engineering Officer of Quobly.
“We are proud to see Soitec’s advanced substrates contributing to the emergence of Europe’s quantum ecosystem. This milestone illustrates how our expertise in engineering semiconductor materials can enable the next generation of quantum technologies”, said Christophe Maleville, Chief Technology Officer, Senior Executive VP Innovation of Soitec.

Si28 Unlocks Quantum Performance
Manufactured on Soitec’s industrial lines, these new 28Si FD-SOI substrates have been engineered to eliminate isotopic impurities, drastically reducing quantum noise and unlocking single-qubit gate fidelities approaching 99.999%, a cornerstone for building reliable and scalable silicon-based quantum processors.
FD-SOI Enables Quantum Devices
By integrating the FD-SOI platform, a proven low-noise and CMOS-compatible architecture, with a 28Si-enriched silicon channel, Quobly creates a scalable path toward silicon-based quantum processors that benefits from the maturity and robustness of industrial semiconductor manufacturing, from the fabrication of millions of physical qubits to the realization of thousands of logical ones. These quantum processors will unlock new capabilities in materials discovery, energy optimization, and biotechnological modelling, accelerating innovation and value creation across key industries.
Building a European Value Chain
This milestone highlights the strength of the collaboration: Soitec for the industrial manufacturing of advanced substrates, STMicroelectronics for their validation of the technology and process in a high-volume 300mm fab, and Quobly for the development of quantum devices. With the first wafer lots being processed in Crolles and ongoing process development and industrialization building from ST’s 28nm FD-SOI process, earliest performance metrics of these prototype devices are expected in the first quarter of 2026.
