  • Prabhakar’s expertise in large-scale compute infrastructure and sustainable energy systems will help QuantWare integrate its VIO 3D quantum processor architecture into power-efficient, hyperscale quantum-classical computing systems.
  • QuantWare, the world’s highest-volume provider of quantum processors and creator of the open-architecture QOA model, aims to scale to the MegaQubit era and serve as a foundational platform for the global quantum computing ecosystem.

PRESS RELEASE — QuantWare, the creator of VIO, the 3D scaling architecture powering the world’s most advanced quantum processors, today announced the appointment of Aparna Prabhakar to its Board of Directors as a non-executive member. Aparna Prabhakar is Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer of Schneider Electric’s $32B Energy Management business, and former VP Quantum Ecosystem at IBM.

Global compute infrastructure buildout is the defining trend of this century. Quantum computing is rapidly emerging as a key part of the world’s future compute landscape. The technology is nearing a tipping point where it can deliver exponentially greater performance for specific applications (see, for example, recent results from Google). Achieving this will require hyperscaled quantum systems – for which QuantWare’s VIO 3D scaling architecture is a crucial piece of technology. With VIO, quantum processors can reach MegaQubit scale – resulting in Quantum Computers with exponentially more compute per dollar per watt: resulting in much lower energy usage and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) of these systems.

The buildout of this infrastructure is reaching unprecedented levels in both dollar investment and energy use – and current trends cannot continue forever. As Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer for Schneider Electric’s $32B Energy Management business, Prabhakar brings deep expertise in AI infrastructure and its energy management. With this experience, QuantWare brings on board a world expert on hyperscale compute infrastructure. This will help integrate VIO powered Quantum Computers with classical HPC to ensure power-efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable quantum systems – metrics that will soon define the industry’s commercial viability.

An ecosystem of quantum technologies is being built on top of QuantWare’s technology (see, for example, NVIDIA’s DGX Quantum powered by a QuantWare QPU). By launching the world’s first commercially available QPUs in 2021, the company introduced the quantum open-architecture model (QOA). QOA enables best of breed solutions, and makes building quantum computers faster and drives down cost per qubit (see, for example, QuantWare’s QPU powering the largest quantum computer in Italy). Today, QuantWare is the world’s highest-volume provider of quantum processors – providing customers with economies of scale advantages. With its VIO 3D architecture, QuantWare now provides the scalable compute platform on which the global quantum ecosystem can build and innovate – positioning itself as the aggregator and enabler of this new industry. Previously, as part of IBM Quantum’s leadership team, Prabhakar built IBM’s world-class partner network – now more than 200 companies strong, and the largest in the industry. Her deep expertise in growing and scaling diverse, nascent ecosystems will be an asset to accelerating the development of VIO’s ecosystem.

“QuantWare is truly redefining what’s possible in quantum computing,” said Aparna Prabhakar. “The company is solving the most important problem in the field – how to scale processors to the MegaQubit era so we can generate more compute with less energy. As we get near the market inflection point, VIO gives QuantWare the position to build an ecosystem and to power the next generation of hyperscale compute centers. QuantWare has the potential to become one of the defining companies of the compute revolution, and I’m thrilled to help guide that journey.”

“We are building the processors that will power the next computing revolution,” said Matt Rijlaarsdam, CEO of QuantWare. “We’re moving full speed ahead on three fronts: developing the world’s most powerful quantum processors through VIO; building quantum fabs to produce them at an industrial scale; and building a global ecosystem developing on our compute platform. Few people on the planet understand the most important trend of this century, the race for compute infrastructure and its implications, as deeply as Aparna. With her, we bring one of the world’s foremost strategic ecosystem thinkers on our team. We’re incredibly excited to have her on board.”
