PRESS RELEASE — Quinas, developer of the breakthrough memory innovation ULTRARAM™, has been named a 2025 WIPO Global Award winner in the ICT Start-up category by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Quinas is one of just ten companies worldwide to receive this prestigious honour and the only winner from the United Kingdom.
Selected from over 780 applicants across 95 countries, the WIPO Global Awards celebrate small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are using intellectual property (IP) to drive commercial success and deliver real-world impact through innovation. The award recognises Quinas’ use of IP to transform ULTRARAM from quantum physics research at Lancaster University into a manufacturable universal memory technology with global applications in AI, data centres, and secure computing.
“Quinas Technology is honoured to receive this award, which highlights the power of intellectual property to take ideas from lab to market,” said Prof. Manus Hayne, Chief Scientific Officer of Quinas, who accepted the award on the company’s behalf at the 66th WIPO General Assembly in Geneva. “It’s a significant moment to be recognised during the UN International Year of Quantum, as quantum resonant tunnelling is the enabling principle behind ULTRARAM’s unique ability to combine speed, endurance, and non-volatility in one device.”

ULTRARAM is a patented memory technology that delivers DRAM-like speed and flash-like retention with ultra-low power consumption—addressing global demands for high-performance, energy-efficient memory. To date, Quinas has secured five granted patents across four jurisdictions, with eight more pending, forming a strong foundation for its IP-led commercialisation strategy.

The announcement has been welcomed by the UK Government.

Quinas is backed by Innovate UK and works closely with academic and industrial partners across the UK, Europe, and Asia. The company is currently advancing the commercialisation of ULTRARAM for high-impact use cases including AI acceleration, neuromorphic computing, cybersecurity, and low-power edge devices.
