PRESS RELEASE — South Carolina Quantum (SC Quantum) has launched the Summer Sprint 2025, a regional initiative designed to evaluate and advance quantum literacy education tools. The program will invite professionals, educators, and leaders across the Southeast to access select online quantum learning platforms at no cost through early August.
Summer Sprint 2025 is an important step in a broader effort to build quantum literacy and ensure that South Carolinians—and the Southeast as a whole—are prepared for a future shaped by quantum technologies. SC Quantum believes that investing in people is as critical as advancing quantum hardware and software. This initiative puts that belief into action by making powerful learning tools accessible to a wide audience and using participant feedback to shape future strategy. The Summer Sprint initiative builds on SC Quantum’s leadership role as a finalist in the National Science Foundation’s Regional Innovation Engines initiative and the collaborative partnerships built during this process.
Participants are encouraged to explore one or two platforms and share their experiences through a structured survey. Their input will inform a follow-on research project focused on improving access, usability, and relevance in quantum education—especially for institutions and learners with limited prior exposure. These quantum education strategies will aim to address K-12, university, and industry needs. Summer Sprint participants will be able to:
- Explore a variety of quantum learning platforms
- Access is provided at no cost
- Participate anytime through early August
- Help shape quantum literacy education strategies
Invited participants will have access to:
- Black Opal by Q-CTRL: A self-paced, interactive learning platform designed to build a foundational, intuitive understanding of quantum computing through ten modules of visual explanations and hands-on tools—no prior experience required
- Classiq for Academia: A high-level quantum development platform that automates circuit design, enabling users to build scalable quantum applications without low-level programming. Ideal for researchers and developers, Classiq supports complex algorithm development across any gate-based quantum system. (Available to educators and students of academic institutions)
- qBraid: qBook is a hands-on learning platform by qBraid, designed specifically for quantum computing, featuring video lectures, interactive widgets, quizzes, and integrated coding exercises. qBook adopts a learn-by-doing approach and offers a variety of courses across different levels. Educators can also create and deploy their own custom courses
- QliteX by the National Quantum Literacy Network: A visual, hands-on platform that supports foundational education in quantum science to high school students and beginners, comprising seven technologies across ten modules incorporating games and Qbot, an AI assistant that helps learners adapt to their level of understanding
“Summer Sprint 2025 is about listening closely to our community,” said Katie Levkoff, Senior Manager of Engagement at SC Quantum. “We want to understand what’s working and what’s not when it comes to emerging quantum education platforms. This input will help shape the next phase of building regional pathways to quantum learning and literacy.”
This pilot reflects the SCQ’s broader educational philosophy: that everyone should have the opportunity to engage with and benefit from transformative technologies. Through programs like the Summer Sprint, SC Quantum works to connect emerging tools with local talent and to advance both workforce development and public understanding.
