PRESS RELEASE — According to a recent post, the Materiel and IT Command (COMMIT), a division of the Netherlands Ministry of Defence, has launched the Purple NECtar Quantum Challenges initiative, selecting six companies and research institutions to develop solutions for technical and operational quantum use cases. Over the next eight months, these teams will work on their projects, culminating in a presentation at Purple NECtar/Innovation in Defence in November 2025, where the best solutions will earn a follow-up assignment.

The selected participants include:

  • Fermioniq – Specializes in cloud-based quantum emulation, providing scalable quantum simulators for algorithm testing and hardware development.
  • QuiX Quantum – Develops photonic quantum computing technology, leveraging light-based processors for scalable and energy-efficient quantum systems.
  • QuantaMap – Focuses on quantum-enhanced mapping and geospatial analysis, improving accuracy in navigation, urban planning, and environmental monitoring.
  • Qubitrium – Works on quantum hardware development, designing qubits and control systems essential for stable quantum computing operations.
  • Deltares – Applies quantum computing to environmental and water management, improving flood prediction and climate modeling.
  • CUbIQ Technologies – Advances quantum communication, developing secure quantum cryptography solutions to protect data transmissions.

According to a corresponding release from QuiX Quantum, this initiative represents a new form of collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and quantum technology companies, accelerating procurement processes while supporting industry innovation. COMMIT intends to not only address its own challenges but also strengthen the broader quantum ecosystem through active knowledge sharing.
