SDT and SemiQon Announce Collaboration on Scalable Quantum Computing with Silicon-based Processors

PRESS RELEASE — SDT and SemiQon sign a Memorandum of Understanding and begin construction of a modular system for quantum computing to reduce production costs and enable scalability. “Through cooperation with SemiQon, we will expand our manufacturing powerhouse DNA into the quantum computing field,” SDT comments.

Korean quantum standards technology company SDT announced on November 7th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SemiQon. Based in Finland, a global hub for advanced research in quantum and nano technologies, SemiQon specializes in the development and production of silicon-based QPUs.

The signing ceremony took place on at SemiQon’s headquarters in Espoo, Finland, with key personnel from both companies, including SDT’s CEO Yoon Ji-won and SemiQon’s CEO Dr. Himadri Majumdar, in attendance. Following the signing, both parties discussed specific cooperation plans for the future.

“The MOU is significant in that we have laid the foundation for Korea to continue its proud legacy as a manufacturing powerhouse by applying it to the field of quantum computing,” states SDT’s CEO Yoon Ji-won.

Through this MOU, SDT will receive SemiQon’s silicon-based QPU chips that will be implemented in the quantum precision measurement equipment developed and commercialized by SDT. The two companies aim to advance the global quantum computing market by strengthening the stability and scalability of quantum computing manufacturing.

SemiQon’s QPUs, developed on silicon leveraging decades of semiconductor expertise, are expected to accelerate the commercialization of quantum computing. This approach enhances compatibility with existing semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure, reducing production costs and enabling the swift establishment of mass production systems.

Regarding the MOU, Dr. Himadri Majumdar, CEO of SemiQon, said, “SemiQon is delighted to work with SDT.
