“We’re building a company that will help shape the future of quantum computing,” said Faye Wattleton, co-founder of quantum hardware developer EeroQ, during a recent interview with Barron’s. Wattleton, widely recognized for her transformative leadership at Planned Parenthood, is now focused on revolutionizing the tech industry.
“Quantum is not just an evolution; it’s a revolution in how we process information,” she added.
EeroQ, a company born from a collaboration between experts in physics and seasoned business leaders, aims to push the boundaries of what quantum computing can achieve.
“This isn’t the same science that powers our everyday computers. Quantum computing is based on entirely different principles, offering immense potential to solve problems that were previously out of reach,” Wattleton explained.
The company’s name, EeroQ, has a personal origin.
“One of our co-founders named his son Eero, and we decided to honor that by naming the company after him, with a ‘Q’ for quantum,” Wattleton shared. This personal touch reflects the close-knit and innovative nature of the company.
Wattleton, who joined the venture after a serendipitous meeting with co-founders Johannes Pollanen and Nick Farina, brings a unique perspective to the table.
“They needed someone with corporate governance experience and a broad worldview,” she said. “They were smart enough to tap into resources and experiences beyond the tech world, which is crucial when you’re dealing with a technology that will reshape society.”
While quantum computing might seem abstract to many, Wattleton is clear about its future implications.
“Quantum computing has the potential to supercharge AI, enhancing its capabilities far beyond what we currently see,” she said. This intersection of quantum computing and AI is where EeroQ sees vast opportunities for innovation and societal impact.
Reflecting on the broader implications of their work, Wattleton drew a parallel with historical scientific breakthroughs, stressing the need for a multidisciplinary dialogue.
“We can’t allow quantum computing to be held in the hands of a few. It’s essential that we bring in voices from across society to guide its development,” said Wattleton.
As EeroQ continues to grow, Wattleton remains grounded in the company’s mission.
“We’re not just building technology; we’re building the future,” she said.
