Ready-Made Strategies

With the majority of experts in quantum tech adamant the first significant industry to benefit from quantum computing (QC) and quantum information science (QIS) will be cybersecurity, it’s natural to find a lot of startups focusing their efforts on this discipline.

According to data points in TQD’s very own data platform, The Quantum Insider, there are over twenty commercial enterprises whose business is tailored to products and solutions in Post-Quantum security.

ArQit, ID Quantique and MagiQ are just a sample of those companies with ready-made strategies for Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and/or Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG).

And PQSecure — founded in 2017 as a university spinoff from Dr. Reza Azarderakhsh’s computer engineering lab at Florida Atlantic University — is just one more to add to the tribe. Based in Boca Raton/Palm Beach with a branch in the Washington, D.C. area, PQsecure is made up of an expert team of cryptographic researchers, engineers, mathematicians, and other staff members to give it a competitive edge.

The startup’s security solutions focus on quantum-safe cryptographic solutions. Cooperating with governments, original manufacturers and OEMs “to study, test, migrate and implement quantum-safe security solutions and increase their crypto-agility for future transitions”, PQSecure’s focal point with cryptographic solutions is on low power and small footprint solutions so they may be used in the smallest of connected devices.

The startup outlines its objectives as follows:

• PQSecure can help during any steps in the transition process. As experts in the cryptographic (classical and post-quantum), quantum-computing, security, and wireless communication fields, we understand the needs of companies looking to adopt and transition

• PQSecure works with companies to assess their needs, risks, and vulnerabilities to offer them individual assessments and transition plans

• PQSecure attends, speaks, and participates in conferences and panels related to quantum-safe cryptographic solutions, sharing our knowledge and staying informed

• PQSecure designs, builds, and tests quantum-safe cryptographic solutions so companies have options when it comes to securing their devices.

• PQSecure also develops classical cryptographic solutions for companies interested in a hybrid system or not quite ready for the quantum-transition

• PQSecure researches the effects of quantum computers and the quantum resource estimates required for a quantum computer to threaten our currently deployed cryptographic solutions.

With solutions that encompass the gamut of classical (Private-key (Symmetric) Cryptography and Public-Key (Asymmetric) Cryptography), hybrid as well as Post-quantum (Post-Quantum Public Key Exchange and Post-Quantum Digital Signatures) approaches, PQSecure’s agility will be an asset in the years to come.

All of this wouldn’t have been possible without the startup’s founder, Dr. Reza Azarderakhsh. With more than a decade of working in cryptographic engineering, protocol design, and cryptanalysis of various cryptography solutions, Azarderakhsh’s expertise is being well utilized. With a Ph.D. in computer engineering from Western University in Canada, PQSecure’s founder also has postdoctoral research experience at the Center for Applied Cryptographic Research at the University of Waterloo. To bolster his resume even more, he has published more than fifty papers in top journals and has attended countless conferences in the field.

With partnerships that include the National Science Foundation (NSF), Amazon Web Services and Intel IoT Solutions Alliance, PQSecure is sitting pretty in an industry whose rise to prominence is not so very far away.
