New Online Course Designed by QURECA, Aims to Help Understand Practical Applications of Quantum Technologies

Quantum Source Quantum Source

Quantum technologies are not only for physicists. “Quantum for Everyone”, a new online course designed by QURECA‘s experts for non-specialists, will help you understand quantum technologies and spot opportunities to apply quantum technologies to problems in your own organization. If you are a non-technical business professional, “Quantum for Everyone” will help you understand how to build a sustainable quantum strategy. If you are a quantum software developer or a quantum engineer, this is the course to ask your manager, VP or CEO to take if you want them to understand what you can – and cannot ! – do.

An online course for non-technical business professionals – Why ?

The quantum theory, which governs physics on the atomic scale, is not exactly new. Built on top of the discoveries of pioneering physicists, lasers and transistors are well known examples of quantum technologies from the last century. These innovations were major breakthroughs as they gave birth to the semiconductors and the telecommunications industries.

“A second quantum revolution with far reaching applications is unfolding.”

More than half a century later, a second quantum revolution with far reaching applications is unfolding. Thanks to substantial progress in both engineering and physics, we now have the ability to manipulate quantum systems (electrons, photons, atoms, etc) at the individual level. We can for instance put them in a superposition of states – so zero AND one instead of just zero OR one; we can make them interfere with each other; or we can even make them behave as a single entity – this last property is called entanglement. This second quantum revolution opens the doors to a new wave of disruptive technologies that fully exploit the weirdness of quantum mechanics.

More precisely, quantum computers will employ these properties to solve some domain specific problems substantially faster than classical computers. Quantum communication networks will offer a new paradigm to protect users’ data in a much more secured way than current asymmetric crypto means. Finally, quantum sensors will allow improved measurement capabilities in various fields.

All these technologies look fascinating, but also maybe a bit complicated to apprehend, don’t they ? You might assume a PhD in physics or computer science is mandatory to gain knowledge in this domain. We at QURECA are convinced that this is not true and took this negative mindset as a challenge. Our answer to that was to build “Quantum for everyone”, a course with not a single equation that will teach you how to navigate the rise of quantum technologies.

Whether you want to know what’s behind the aforementioned buzzwords, or you want to use quantum technologies either for personal or business interests, this course will provide you the answers you need. Moreover, if you want to understand how quantum technologies are affecting society, and how you can navigate through these technologies, you will also learn that from this course.

About the course content

In the first lesson, we will start by cutting through the hype and giving you a realistic overview of what quantum computing really is. Is quantum computing as a service already a reality ? What makes quantum processing units so powerful ? What can we do – but also not do – with them ? What are state of the art hardware and software solutions ? Is there a sustainable roadmap for this technology ? All these questions will be addressed throughout this lesson.

Also, you have probably read news articles about how much value quantum computing will create. Even though quantum computing is still in its infancy, a lot of the value to be created in the future lies outside the high tech industry. Quantum computing will impact sectors such as chemistry, pharma, finance, energy, automotive, and materials science. It is hard to think of a sector where quantum computing will not have a huge impact in the future. For this reason, the second lesson focuses on potential applications of quantum computing across industries.

Later in this course, you will also learn how quantum computing is already threatening data integrity and privacy. Luckily, quantum-safe security solutions already exist. In lesson 3, we will introduce quantum-resistant algorithms and quantum cryptography, two fundamentally different ways of securing cyber-physical systems against future quantum computers. You will also learn about how to perform a quantum-risk assessment to evaluate the threat in your business and to make your company “quantum-resistant”.

Finally, we will present the emergence of the worldwide quantum ecosystem. You might be familiar with some of the usual big names such as IBM and Google, but we also want to provide an overview of the startups, consulting firms, and venture funds. In the fourth and last lesson of this course you will get familiar with the quantum technologies ecosystem, as well as the different National initiatives around the globe. In addition, one last topic will cover the next steps you need to become a potential end user. For example, you will learn how to explore a first use case, to deploy a sustainable strategy, and to hire quantum talents or train your IT software team already in place.

By the end of this four-lesson course, you will certainly be more knowledgeable and better qualified than most of large companies CEOs. Not only you will increase your understanding of quantum technologies, but we will equip you with the ability for you and your company to navigate the rise of quantum technologies. We hope that after this course you will be in a position to even provide leadership to others while navigating these major changes.

Dr. Bruno Fedrici – PhD in quantum engineering with a university certificate in digital transformation, Bruno actively contributes to the public and business awareness of quantum technologies by providing a bridge between higher education, research and industry. For three years now he has been introducing quantum computing basics and quantum-safe security solutions to executives and technical leaders as well as to computer science and engineering students.

About QURECA Ltd.

In 2019, the Royal Society described QURECA Ltd. as the company that “fills the gaps in the existing quantum community, creating a society ready for quantum through a common language.” QURECA provides a range of professional services, business development, and the solution to the quantum workforce skills bottleneck. QURECA is the first online platform for quantum training and resourcing, to support individuals and businesses to be part of the quantum revolution.

Araceli Venegas-Gomez

Dr. Araceli Venegas-Gomez is the Founder and CEO of QURECA Ltd. (Quantum Resources & Careers), a company offering professional services, business development, and the first online platform for training and recruitment. She spent several years working in industry as an aerospace engineer before falling in love with quantum mechanics. She then decided to follow her passion for physics, and pursued a PhD in the field of quantum simulation at the University of Strathclyde. Following her work on outreach advocating quantum technologies, she was named the “quantum ambassador”, after winning the Optical Society Milton and Rosalind Chang Pivoting fellowship in 2019. She is also an executive fellow at the University of Bristol Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre in 2020.
