Insider Brief

  • ZuriQ and Rhonexum have signed a multi-year commercial agreement under which Rhonexum will supply cryogenic integrated-circuit technologies and customization services for ZuriQ‘s trapped-ion quantum computing roadmap.
  • The agreement includes an initial product delivery scheduled for the end of 2026, future product orders and deployments, and technical cooperation that gives ZuriQ access to selected Rhonexum technologies and product developments.
  • The companies aim to address quantum processor scaling challenges, including control-signal overhead per qubit, by combining ZuriQ‘s trapped-ion architecture with Rhonexum‘s cryogenic electronics expertise.

PRESS RELEASE — ZuriQ and Rhonexum have announced a multi-year commercial framework agreement. Under the agreement, Rhonexum will supply cryogenic integrated-circuit technologies and customisation services to ZuriQ, which will evaluate the potential of each of these solutions to advance its trapped-ion quantum computing roadmap.

This partnership brings together ZuriQ’s trapped-ion quantum computing expertise and Rhonexum’s cryogenic electronics technologies to address future scaling and performance requirements. It establishes a framework for future orders, product deployments, and technical collaboration.

Quantum computing is rapidly accelerating toward industrial deployment and scalable commercial systems. As quantum processors scale, demand is growing for specialised hardware and electronics that improve performance, reduce complexity, and enable more compact system architectures. A longstanding challenge in scaling trapped-ion quantum computing is to reduce the overhead in control signals per qubit that travel from room-temperature sources into a cryogenic environment. ZuriQ’s architectural advances, together with Rhonexum’s cryogenic electronics expertise, provide a unique approach that can enable denser qubit arrays while retaining flexible reconfiguration capabilities.

This agreement has already resulted in a first quantity of Rhonexum’s inaugural product scheduled for delivery by the end of this year. Extending beyond a traditional customer-supplier relationship and including long-term technical cooperation, ZuriQ will benefit from privileged access to selected Rhonexum technologies and future product developments, while direct feedback from ZuriQ will help Rhonexum shape future products for trapped-ion quantum computing applications.

“We are pleased to formalize our collaboration with Rhonexum through this multi-year commercial agreement,” said Pavel Hrmo, CEO of ZuriQ. “The partnership combines highly complementary capabilities and gives us access to specialised cryogenics electronics technologies that support our future deployment roadmap.”

“This agreement is a significant milestone for Rhonexum, as I strongly believe partnerships between hardware innovators are increasingly important to bridge the gap between R&D efforts and breakthroughs and commercial adoption.”, said Vicente Carbon, CEO of Rhonexum. “Partnering with ZuriQ validates the relevance of our technology and provides a clear pathway toward deployment in next-generation quantum computing systems through a long-term commercial relationship.”

The partnership reflects the increasing collaboration between Swiss quantum startups as the sector matures. With roots in the ETH Zurich and EPFL innovation ecosystems, ZuriQ and Rhonexum demonstrate how academic excellence can translate into commercial partnerships, and how specialized Swiss companies are joining forces through concrete commercial initiatives to strengthen Swiss and European quantum capabilities.

“Collaboration across the Swiss quantum ecosystem is becoming increasingly important to accelerate industrial adoption and strengthen Europe’s position in the global quantum technology landscape,” said Pavel Hrmo, CEO of ZuriQ, at QIDiS 2026..
