Portal For Airbus BMW Group ‘The Quantum Mobility Quest’ Is Now Open

Insider Brief

  • The portal for The Airbus and BMW Group Quantum Computing Challenge — “The Quantum Mobility Quest” — is open.
  • Problem statements include improved aerodynamics design, future automated mobility, sustainable supply chain optimization and enhanced corrosion inhibition.
  • The winning team in each of the challenges will be awarded a €30,000 prize by the end of 2024.

The Airbus and BMW Group Quantum Computing Challenge — “The Quantum Mobility Quest” — is officially underway and the online portal is ready to receive entries.

Participants are asked to submit their entries that tackle one or more of the problem statements, including improved aerodynamics design, future automated mobility, sustainable supply chain optimization and enhanced corrosion inhibition. They are free to propose their own quantum technology applications in transportation.

The challenge, hosted by The Quantum Insider (TQI), comprises a four-month theoretical development phase and a subsequent implementation phase for selected finalists. Amazon Web Services (AWS) supports candidates with their Amazon Braket quantum computing service.

A jury of leading quantum experts, along with experts from Airbus, BMW Group, and AWS, will evaluate submissions. The winning team in each of the challenges will be awarded a €30,000 prize by the end of 2024.

For more information and to submit entries, visit the official “Quantum Mobility Quest” portal here [link].

Airbus and BMW Group launched this pioneering challenge to harness the transformative power of quantum computing in the aviation and automotive sectors.

The companies are holding the contest because they believe quantum computing holds the potential to dramatically increase computational power, enabling complex operations that challenge today’s top computers. For data-driven sectors like transportation, this emerging technology is key to simulating various industrial and operational processes, shaping future mobility products and services.

This competition invites these entries from the global quantum community to help address some of the most complex challenges in these industries that classical computers cannot solve effectively or efficiently.

Dr. Peter Lehnert, Vice-President of Research Technologies at the BMW Group, said previously in a statement, “After the success of previous Quantum Computing Challenges by BMW Group and Airbus, we’re excited for this new wave of innovation, delving into technology capabilities for sustainability and operational excellence. BMW Group aims to integrate quantum technology, global ecosystems, and advanced solutions to achieve significant advances in sustainable materials, unique and efficient designs, and enhanced user experiences in our products.”

Submissions will be accepted from mid-January through April 30, 2024.
