    We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work within the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Macquarie University, Sydney. The successful candidate will conduct independent research and work with the group of Professor Gavin Brennen on the topic of quantum algorithms for blockchain technologies. The project will cover topics in: adversarial game theoretic strategies for proof of work (POW) mining with quantum search algorithms, novel energy efficient quantum mining protocols, and resource costing for quantum mining and attacks on digital signatures including overheads for quantum error correction. This project is funded by the company BTQ and work may be conducted at Macquarie University and in the new quantum startup
    space at Quantum Terminal located in Sydney’s CBD.

    Salary Package: Level B, Step 1 (PhD or nearly completed) From $108,111 p.a.,
    plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading

    Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed term for 12 months with potential for
    extension to 18 months

    The MQ Department of Physics and Astronomy hosts the Centre for Quantum Engineering comprising 8 faculty, 10 post-docs, and 20 PhD students working in quantum information theory and experiment. The University hosts a node of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQuS) and is one of four partner universities in the Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA).

    Essential
    • Postgraduate qualifications (PhD level or equivalent) in physics, computer
    science, or a relevant discipline.

    • Proven track record of research in quantum information theory, especially in
    algorithms for quantum computation and/or simulation as demonstrated by
    international reputation, research publications, and presentations.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct research collaboratively and independently.
    • High-level communication, inter-personal, and communication skills.

    Experience in supervising postgraduate students is considered favourably.
